The great Emperor of India, King Akbar, went to go visit the Guru. Guru Amar Das Dev ji wouldn't see the visiting royalty until his guest had eaten in the Guru's langar. So this great ruler of the whole land sat along side all kinds of common people and ate langar. Emperor Akbar was impressed that the Guru served so many people, and was humbled that Guru Amar Das didn't consider anyone higher or lower.
A king with his army visited Guru Gobind Singh ji. The king obviously thought his army was superior to the Guru's so the Guru decided to teach him a kind lesson. Guru ji asked his Sikhs to use themselves as targets to test a new gun he had received. Two Sikhs wanted so much to give their lives for the Guru they fought over who would be the target. The proud king was greatly humbled.
A rich man wants to really experience this God thing that everyone is always talking about. So he offered gold coins to anyone who can tell him. Many people gave answers but only one person gave an answer that he felt was right.
Young Nanak refuses to take the Hindu traditional thread (janao) in a family ceremony. He said that the thread will wear away but his love for God will not. He told them that the thread represented some virtues so he would rather wear the virtues themselves.
Bidhi Chand used to be a thief before he met Guru Hargobind. The Emperor, had intercepted two beautiful horses named Dilbagh and Gulbagh that were going to be given to the Guru. Bidhi Chand used his skills one more time to steal the Guru's horses back from the emperor and unite them with the Guru.
Mata Ganga who was the wife of Guru Arjan Dev Ji, could not have a baby, so she went to ask Bhai Budha for this blessing. After rejecting her once, Bhai Budha accepted her offering. As he ate he crushed an onion with his fist, he said, "Your son will be a master of heaven and earth. He will crush enemies like I crushed this onion."
When Nanak was a little boy he went to school, and he wasn't interested in learning the alphabet. He only wanted to chant Gods name. His teacher asked him to recite the alphabet and Guru Nanak recited it without ever being taught. The teacher was so impressed that he fell to his knees and bowed to the young Nanak.
Humayun went to Guru Angad to get blessing and restore his rule. He got angry that the Guru didn't give him respect so he went to kill the Guru. Then Guru Angad told him that he is quick to kill men of God, but couldn't defend his on kingdom. Humayun bowed to the Guru and asked forgiveness.
Harnakash the king made everyone chant his name, but his son Prahlad refused, saying he would rather chant on Ram. Harnakash became very angry and tried to kill Pralaad, but God Himself saved Prahlad. Then God appeared in the form of a man lion to punish Harnakash and killed Harnakash for his treachery.
