Here in the northern hemisphere, where I sit and write today, this time of year is sacred. It is sacred for many reasons. It is a time of deep self-reflection. It is the time of the longest nights and shortest days. It is a time to be with family and Sangat. It is a time for deepest prayer.

Winter Solstice

Prayer is not just in our words. It springs from our heart and it takes form in our actions.

Seva is a form of prayer for others. Giving is a form of prayer for others.

Everyday, in every moment, we are given the gift and opportunity to serve, give and pray. Regardless of what the situation may hold, regardless of the way thoughts may crash around in our heads, regardless of the other person, regardless of anything – we can be there for others. We give everything in a place of love and nothing in a place of fear. And, in the place of love, we give and everything comes back to us: The prayers, the sweetness, the peace of mind, the wealth, and the blessings.

If the Guru tells me to give, then the Guru will surely provide the means. I will not waste time wondering how this bill or that bill will be paid, I will not question how I will get by. I will simply envelop myself in the Guru's gentle, loving and abundant arms and allow myself to be taken care of.

Baby Eating

A child has no doubt of this, he or she freely drops things, and always expects to receive more. Young children are never worried about what they will get – they simply understand that everything they need will be there, and it is so for them. I have learned much from children.

A law of the universe is that for what a man gives he shall receive and for what a man receives, a gift shall be required of him.

Your contribution to SikhNet is sacred, and we treat it in that manner. I wanted to let you know that every week the entire SikhNet team reads aloud the names of all our donors from that week, along with their comments, and together we pray to bless you and everyone.

SikhNet Staff Prayer
SikhNet Staff reading

Our prayer is simple: May the Guru continue to bless you and your loved ones with the remembrance of the Naam, health, happiness and prosperity.

At this deep and sacred time of year, may the Guru bless each and every one of us with the knowledge that the bounty of the Universe belongs to us all and is given to us to share.

If you have contributed to our annual fundraiser this year, we thank you. If you have not yet had a chance, now is the time. As 2014 draws to a close, we are grateful for any gift you choose to make. It is because of your kindness and generosity that SikhNet.com can continue serving the global Sikh community.

From all of us at SikhNet, we wish you a blessed, prosperous, and happy 2015!

- Guruka Singh Khalsa, SikhNet CEO
