The videography is of a rare quality that is even better than being there, with both bird’s eye views and closeups of people and places merging the historical with the modern. Message of a Shared Singular Light
Tracking Guru Nanak and Mardana through India, Bangladesh, Tibet, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Sri Lanka and Saudi Arabia, Amardeep Singh covers, in 24 episodes, more than 4 journeys and 22 years of travel. The docuseries primary focus is the underlying theme and message of Guru Nanak who sought to spread the truth of a singular light shared by one unified humanity, and to abolish rituals, ignorance and break down barriers of beliefs that separate, divide, and rank people by class, and caste. Amardeep Singh interviews Hindus, Yogis, Muslims, Sufis, Buddhists, Monks, along with Sikhs, seeking evidence of Guru Nanak’s lingering effect that has not only survived centuries, but continues to inspire and bring people together with shared philosophies. Hymns of Guru Granth Sahib composed by enlightened beings identifying as Muslims, Hindus, and Sikhs Gurus, highlight the narrative throughout the series, underscoring equality and unifying ideals.
