Wahe Guru Ji Ka Khalsa, Wahe Guru Ji Ki Fateh.
My Dear SikhNet Family,
I wanted to share a few personal thoughts with you as we end 2015.
Guru Nanak directly perceived the Universe through his meditative awareness hundreds of years ago. His conclusion from that Infinite perspective was a simple message to humanity. Life is a precious gift. It does not last forever. Embrace it with gratitude towards the One who created the entire expanse of Creation. And don’t waste it fighting with each other over nonsense.
The older I get, the more grateful I feel for Guru Nanak’s simple, direct approach to life. These days, facing middle age, my connection to time has shifted. I realize that the journey has to end at some point, and when that point comes is not in my hands. So what do I need to do today with the time that I have? What actions do I need to take so when my last breath comes I can say - yes - thank you - I appreciated the gift you gave me, oh Divine One, and pray that I used that gift to Your liking.
This week, we welcome the New Year. We welcome the return of the light. We welcome another cycle of seasons and growing, of planting and sowing, of harvesting and enjoying.
My prayer, both for myself as well as for all of you, is that we never take for granted what a remarkable miracle life is, and that we value to its fullest each breath that we have been given, dedicating whatever time we can to raising our consciousness and serving others. I truly believe that what the Gurus taught us, when practiced sincerely, will bring peace to the earth. |
