‘Eq1 - SRI GURU NANAK DEV JI. THE REVOLUTIONARY TEACHER’
This weekend will see the opening of a stunning new Sikh Art Exhibition: ‘Eq1 - SRI GURU NANAK DEV JI. THE REVOLUTIONARY TEACHER’ at WithoutShapeWithoutForm.
In November 2017 the UK’s first permanent Sikh Art Gallery ‘Without Shape Without Form’ was opened. The Gallery, a collaboration between volunteers at Guru Maneyo Granth Gurdwara in Slough, UK and Kanwar Singh from ArtofPunjab, has been highly acclaimed with thousands of visitors of all faiths attending from across the UK and abroad. Its impact on all that have visited has been truly profound. The moving images from Sikh History carefully combined with heart-felt verses from Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji results in an experience that has left many lost for words and in tears of emotion.
The Gallery has highlighted how the arts can be a powerful educational tool for sharing Sikh History and Sikh teachings. Regardless of your faith, background or age the exhibition reminds us of lessons we can all apply to our everyday lives.
Encouraged by the impact of the Gallery, volunteers set out to produce a new exhibition to mark the 550 birth anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji.
The result was (Eq)1, a curation that highlights how the lessons Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji brought to the world 550 years ago are just as relevant today, at a time when inequality, injustice and anxiety are rife. These teachings are illustrated with a new collection of specially commissioned works from Kanwar Singh. This new collection breaks with tradition and is set in a style not previously exhibited by the artist and has been recognized and supported by the Arts Council England.
This is a life changing exhibition in which Guru Ji’s style of teaching will astonish, captivate and inspire you. Be prepared to be illuminated.
(Eq)1 opens on Sunday 1 December from 3pm to 7pm at 221 Bath Road, Slough, SL1 4BA.
Kanwar Singh will be attending the opening in the UK and is holding a special talk at the exhibition where he will discuss the motivation behind his new works.
