Shanti Kaur Khalsa quotes Guru Nanak saying to the Yogis, "Eat little. Sleep little." One huge objective in the spiritual lifestyle of the Guru's is to wake up in the Amrit Vela to meditate. These are the hours of 3-6 AM. To help in doing this, its good to not eat too late, and not eat heavy foods. She believes that, to follow this, one should not eat meat because meat does not digest easily and it creates acidity (which can lead to cancer). Eating light, means eating vegetables, and beans etc. Things that will be digested within 24 hours. She also shares a tip on how to wake up in the Amrit Vela. She recites this after Kirtan Sohila before going to sleep:

"Har Guru Gobind Dhiayai Sad Amrit Vela. Waho Waho Gobind Singh Apey Guru Chela."

Translation: "And sequentially, always, meditate on Godly Guru Gobind Singh in the ambrosial hour. Hail, hail (Guru) Gobind Singh; He, Himself, is the Master and the Disciple too."
