A tale for the ages

In the 4th volume of this epic Suraj Prakash Granth is found a story titled "The yogi that came out of Santokhsar". Some sections of the following have been translated directly, others are summaries. To our knowledge this is the first time this detailed story has been made available to the English speaking audience.

So, we find that the head of the nation considered as most powerful had become a liability in his own country and was forced to flee but had to beg for permission to stay outside. The palace had been breached by the popular unrest in the nation, and the President (king in earlier times) had been checkmated. This unfolding of the fate of the head of the nation appeared to me to a modern-day example of Guru Ji’s words...

She once explained to me, "A lot of times the elders try to get involved with how the gurdwara should be run and control everything. But actually, we elders are just supposed to be quiet. We just need to sit back, give blessings and tell stories".

We focused in our conversation on how there is a lack of Sikh representation, historically, at the Union - a place where minorities and diversity have not always been a central focus... A lot of members who attended the event had never heard of Sikhi (other than maybe from knowing I am a Sikh or by hearing of the term Sikh) and walked away feeling more educated, connected, and empathetic towards the Sikh community. It was quite special to see and deeply empowering, as well. 

As a member of the Sikh community, knowing to forgive is important. Giving others a second chance is also a reminder that your community will be there for you if you ever make a mistake in the future. Forgiveness can take in various aspects of life, including your home, social interactions, and business decisions.

Once a beloved of Guru Har Rai asked which one of his beautiful sons; the elder son; Baba Ram Rai or the younger son; Baba HarKrishan, would be the one to sit on the throne of Nanak. Guru ji had the beloved test both sons while they read the Guru's words, by seeing if he could insert a needle into the wood under the books that they were reading... 

He was an architect who made significant contributions to the spread of teachings of Sikhism throughout his life’s work. In 2017, he founded his company CHAATRIK. His firm’s design work includes the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame Shop ... The award ceremony was held at the same location in park where the Cincinnati parks foundation will be erecting a statue of Cincinnati legend Ezzard Charles.
