Dr. Gurdev Singh Khush will be attending the 27th Annual Punjabi American Festival as our Guest of Honor on May 28, 2023, at the Yuba Sutter Fairgrounds. For those who may not know, his research and scientific work saved millions of lives. Gurdev Singh Khush (born August 22, 1935) is an Agronomist and Geneticist who, along with mentor Henry Beachell, received the 1996 World Food Prize for his achievements in enlarging and improving the global supply of rice during a time of exponential population growth.
The Punjabi American festival will start at 12:00 PM and end at sunset. Attended by thousands of people from California and other states, hundreds of students will perform on stage along with internationally acclaimed Punjabi artists.
This year, Jasmine Kaur Sandlas, a Punjabi American singer from California, rapper, television personality, and songwriter will be performing. She has been featured on TEDx Talks, MTV, Coke Studio and spoken word platforms. Jasmine Sandlas is an independent artist and will be the main guest performer and Husnain Javed, a singer from Lahore, Punjab (Pakistan) will also perform.
Eight scholarships will be awarded to deserving local high school students. Fifty plus booths and exhibits are expected to be at the fairgrounds to add different flavors to the event.
