The Partap Brothers of international acclaim, Davinder Paratap Singh, Mohinder Partap Singh, and Ravinder Partap Singh, took to the stage early in life with their father, the revered Sant Partap. The Brothers began performing together in the early 1970s pursuing the perfection of sur and taal, (the arrangement of intervals between the musical notes Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Dha Ni Sa, and tempo, the rhythmic pattern, or cycle of beats). Becoming masters of Indian Classical music, the brothers revived interest in Gurbani kirtan performed in its original raag and are credited with preserving the Puratan Gurmat Sangeet tradition in its purest original form.
The Partap Brothers performed internationally for several decades playing devotional Kirtan, Bhajans, Ghazals, and all types of Indian music in the classic style with traditional instruments, such as Sarangi, Sitar, Taus, and Tabla. Along the way they developed their own unique compositions incorporating piano and Violin. The Partap Brothers delighted audiences with their unique fusion of classic tradition across the world including Australia, Finland, Japan, Kenya, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, and all 50 of the United States of America.
Archival Request
In February of 2021, Mohinder Singh tragically succumbed to Covid-19, leaving his family and brothers, with whom he’d spent a lifetime performing, utterly bereaved. It’s difficult to imagine the kind of loss that comes when losing, not only a family member, but one who had been woven intricately within the fabric of an intimate group of brothers, performers wholly in tune with every nuance of each, felt by the others, while creating legendary music.
With this loss came a realization of the need to archive the Partap Legacy in order to preserve the classic traditions that the brothers spent their lives reviving. A documentary series featuring the Partap Brothers is already well underway. An archive has been established by Kabir Partap who requests and welcomes contributions of both audio and visual archival materials, such as photos, video footage, and audio soundtracks in any form including recordings on tape, VHS, CDs, etc. This video details more about this request: Davinder Partap Singh Archival Request | Partap Brothers
