Wahe Guru ji ka Khalsa, Wahe Guru ji ki Fateh!

The mass shooting at the FedEx facility in Indianapolis, Indiana on April 15, 2021, has left us bereft, once again causing us to remember the tragic legacy of gun violence as we mourn the deaths of another four Sikhs killed in this most recent event. Although it is unclear at this moment whether this is a hate crime, the truth that this facility was a center of employment for many Sikhs in the area gives us pause.

We ask you all to remember in prayer those killed on April 15th.

From the Sikh community:

Amarjeet Kaur Johal, aged 66
Jasvinder Kaur, aged 50
Amarjit Sekhon, aged 48
Jaswinder Singh, aged 68

From the general Indianapolis community:

Matthew R. Alexander, aged 32
Samaria Blackwell, aged 19
Karli Smith, aged 19
John Weisert, aged 74

SikhNet stands with the family and community members of those who died in this reckless violence. We stand in solidarity with the Sikh community of Indianapolis. We grieve with you and pray that the radiance of the Guru and the love of the sangat will help you through this unspeakably traumatic experience.

The Sikh identity is one founded in an egalitarian view of the world. Equality among all people, freedom of religion, social justice, and the use of force only in self-defense. These humane and universal values have made Sikhs good friends, good neighbors, and contributing members of society in every country in which they live. We know that the Sikhs killed in Indianapolis on Thursday were beloved by all who knew them. And we pray that the memory of their faith and good deeds will comfort the hearts of those they leave behind.

You are in our hearts.
