Conducting an Orchestra is highly sophisticated and intricate job to control every sound with the simplest of gestures to make an immediate and perceptible effect. One has to have a talent to convey the mood of serenity, or of serene grandeur to both orchestra and the audiences. Gobind understands the theme well but he has a long and hard road to cross.

The performance was the outcome of absolutely persistence efforts of last seven years by Gobind himself who was fully supported by the family. His stint with a leading group of Berkeley Youth Orchestra for last two years groomed him a lot. Transporting him every Saturday to their location about 40 miles away was arduous task for Shiv who took the brunt of the load but was at times supported by grandparents in me & Harvinder and the Mom Shilpy. But the results have been amazing. His regular Cello teacher Andy, a prodigy himself, has also been consistently and religiously home tutoring both Gobind and sister Jania to tune up their Cello playing skills.

The family did not believe that Gobind in reality will be leading and conducting one of the songs during the Spring Concert of Dougherty Valley High School. It is rare that a turbaned Sikh has ever conducted an Orchestra. He might not become the Mastero like his compatriot Zubin Mehta from Indian soil but definitely he is inching with a tiny step towards that goal.

A turban has been leading in Wars, Politics, Sports and Academia but leading/conducting an Orchestra is admittedly rare. Feeling humbled and grateful to Waheguru ji for offering such an opportunity to young Gobind. My family and I felt elated by his first ever conducting an Orchestra show but could not bring traditional flowers for the performer due to unpreparedness.

May Waheguru Ji continue to bless him!
