Regional Police
recently appointed
Inderpal Singh as their
first Sikh chaplain, to
provide spiritual
guidance to officers
and the community.
Singh was sworn in on Thursday April 20, 2017, by Chief Jennifer Evans at Mississauga City Hall, along with other multi-faith chaplains.
“I am very honored to be in this position and with the blessings of the community I hope to serve and represent Peel region to the best of my ability," shared Singh. "As the first Sikh chaplain for Peel Police, this is an opportunity for me to help guide officers and support staff, through the teachings of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji."
Peel Regional Police is an organization of over 2,000 officers and civilian members serving the communities of Mississauga and Brampton. Singh will be responsible for providing personal and spiritual counselling to officers and civilian members of the police service, along with residents of the two cities, as needed. Some of these duties include: peer support, liaising with other clergy in the community, offering prayers at ceremonial functions and providing guidance on religious questions.
"Inderpal Singh is a young practicing Sikh, born and raised in the Peel Region. He has an extensive religious background, spending many years learning to read and understand the Sikh scripture, Sri Guru Granth Sahib. Inderpal is able to apply key learnings in his own personal life while also guiding and inspiring others to do the same.
He currently leads by organizer programs with Sikh gurdwaras across the GTA, which includes managing over 60 volunteers. In addition he has a volunteer experience with hospice providing care for palliative patients. Inderpal resides in Brampton with his wife and 1.5 year old son..."
