Born in Amritsar India, Canadian artist Kanwar Singh Dhillon has been channeling art for as long as he can remember. He is influenced by a host of past masters such as Sobha Singh, Amrit Sher-Gil, Caravaggio and J.W Waterhouse to name but a few.

Growing up in Toronto Canada, Kanwar explored several paths that would allow him to work as a professional artist including animation and book illustration. However, it wasn’t until he started to take an interest in Sikh history that his art took a definitive turn to magnificence.

Kanwar Singh says that in his work he seeks to combines the grace and beauty of Sobha Singh’s portraits with the documentary style of past Sikh history painters such as Devender Singh. But it actually goes beyond those works and is quite unique in the power, depth, inspiration and beauty of his portrayals of consummate moments in the Sikh legacy. The artist states that “Painting is a way to stop a moment in time and share it with generations to come. You look at a painting today as Sikhs years from now will but due to our shared heritage you feel the same thing and in that way you achieve a connection beyond time. That connection is the joy which moves me to create.”

SIKH ART EXHIBITION CROMWELL PLACE

Special Announcement:

I am very excited to announce that the Cromwell Place Art Gallery in London, UK will be presenting the 'Journey of the Mind’ Sikh Art Exhibit. This exhibition of self-discovery fosters genuine conversation around spirituality and the mind through the contemplation of Sikh knowledge and art.

After touring the UK for the past two years, the exhibition has now arrived in London. The exhibit presents an extensive collection of my Sikh Art with carefully crafted text and animations to present the profound message of Sikhism to a broader audience.

Our goal is to bring Sikh art and history into prestigious sites such as Cromwell Place where wider audiences can explore key Sikh teachings such as Simran, Seva and Sangat to understand their utility in our daily lives.

Art can become a doorway to deeper ideas which have the power to reshape our minds and ultimately our lived realities. Sikh history is full of examples of enlightened beings whose words and actions brought immense good into the world. By exploring the lives of the Sikh Gurus and the many great souls who followed in their footsteps, we can find both inspiration and a road map to reshape our internal and external world for the better.

This art exhibition offers insight for both the novice and longtime followers of Sikhi. I hope that you will join me at the Cromwell Place, I will be attending the exhibition opening week from February 21st to 25th, 2024. Please come and support this incredible endeavor and bring your family and friends - Artist Kanwar Singh (artofpunjab)
