Sikhs in Thailand stood true to their spirit of service when they converged at multiple places to serve food and water to the hundreds of thousands of Thais converging into Bangkok to pay respects to the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
The seva has been going on train stations and on the outskirts of the palace.
The entire nation, Sikhs included, have been grief stricken since the death of King Bhumibol on 13 Oct.
On 18 Oct, a group operating under the banner Thai Sikh Volunteers served food and distributed toothbrush, tooth paste, soap, cleansing wipes and mosquite cream to those boarding off trains at Bangkok’s main train station at Hualamphong.
“The response was one of chardikala,” Pawan Singh, one of organisers, told Asia Samachar. “Our team included businessmen, university students and government officers.”
Sikhs were also allotted a tent at the Grand Palace to serve food to the people coming from across Thailand to pay their last respect.
On 16 Oct, the first Sunday after the demise of the King, hundreds of Sikhs gathered at the Sri Guru Singh Sabha Bangkok, the largest gurdwara in the capital city of Thailand.
On 21 Oct, members of Culture Department of Chonburi and Sanctuary of Truth Pattaya visited Gurdwara Sahib Pattaya to join Sikhs in Pattaya in prayer for the late King, reports Thai Sikh News Channel, available via Facebook.
