For his parent's sake, 25-year-old Satdeep Singh studied BTech and is now doing research in engineering. But for the sake of his heart, Satdeep has scripted and is directing a Punjabi movie, which he hopes to release by the end of this year. But it is not the first time Satdeep is trying his hand behind the cameras. He has earlier won the first prize at an online film festival for his short films, twice in a row.
The movie is about being a proud Sikh. About 80% of the shooting is done. "I am looking forward to the response it will draw," said Satdeep, a resident of Model Town Extension.
Satdeep said he was pulled towards direction since childhood. "I directed a play when I was only in Class VI. My teachers and classmates appreciated the effort and I got the morale boost I needed to continue. To fulfil my parent's dreams I studied engineering and went to Pinjore for my internship," he said.
During that time, Satdeep again directed a play with the families of those working in the company. "Again I was appreciated and then it crossed my mind to try directing films. So I shot a play in natural locations with a handycam. When I showed it to some producers, I was given the opportunity to make it into a Punjabi tele film that finally released in 2009," he said.
In 2010, Satdeep made a short movie, The Forgotten Truth. He released another in 2011, Born to lead. "The script, direction, editing and cinematography were all my work for both projects. I registered my entries in the SikhNet online youth film festival and won the first prize for both," he said.
