Gursanjh, a 3- year-old girl, has been battling beta thalassemia, a genetic blood disorder, since birth. She requires a blood transfusion every 4 weeks, having already received over 40 transfusions. While each transfusion provides her with temporary energy, it also comes with painful needle pricks and causes harmful side effects, such as iron overload on her organs. This ongoing treatment has caused significant anxiety and distress for her parents.
One blood stem cell donation from a matching donor could provide Gursanjh with a permanent cure, freeing her from these life-limiting challenges. Despite there being over 40 million registered donors worldwide, there is not a single matching donor for Gursanjh. By expanding the donor registry, we can increase her chances of finding a match.
The process to join the donor registry is simple and involves a cheek swab test which can be ordered online. Many countries, including the USA, Canada, the UK, and India offer free registration for potential donors. The age range for eligibility may vary by country. Below are the links to order your kit based on your location:
USA (Age 18 to 40) https://my.bethematch.org/Gursanjh or text Gursanjh to 61474
Canada (Age 17 to 35) https://www.blood.ca/en/stemcells/donating-stemcells/stem-cells-question...
UK (Age 16–30) https://www.anthonynolan.org/
India (Age 18 to 55) https://datri.org/
If you are a match for Gursanjh or another patient, you would have an opportunity to donate. One such inspiring donor is Tanav Kalra from Houston, TX, who donated his blood stem cells last year, giving his matching patient a second chance at life. We need your help to find a donor like Tanav for Gursanjh and other patients in need.
