GURUDWARA GURU NANAK TAPOSTHAN MENCHUKHA

Gurudwara Guru Nanak Taposthan at Pemoshubu, Menchukha, commemorates the visit and meditation at the place by Guru Nanak Dev Ji in 1516-1517 during his third journey to the North.  Guru Nanak crossed into Arunachal Pradesh from Bhutan near Tawang, visited Lhasa and Samya Monastery and got Membas settled in the valley bringing them from Dakbo Kangbo. While meditating at Pemoshubu under a boulder he was attacked by the bear but he along with his two companions were saved by the boulder. The marks of their bodies on the boulder are visible. In the valley Guru Nanak meditated in another cave near Menchukha also.

From Menchukha he went to Tuting-Gelling, Sadiya, Brahmkund, Walong on to China.  Guru Nanak had visited these areas in his third travels known as Travels to North. In his travels to North Guru Nanak visited Himachal, Uttaranchal, Tibet, Nepal, Sikkim, Bhutan, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh (then part of Assam), Burma, China etc. This researcher visited almost all of these areas. Based on personal experiences as also the other evidence available in various other sources, he wrote amazing travels of Guru Nanak and Guru Nanak’s travels to North and northeast. The other sources are:

Janam Sakhi Walait Wali,  Janamsakhi Bhai Bala, Janamsakhi B-40, Varan Bhai Gurdas, Gyani Gyan Singh’s Twareekh Guru Khalsa, Gyani Lal Singh’s, Guru Khalsa Twareekh, Bhai Veer Singh’s Guru Nanak Chamtkar, Dr Surinder Singh Kohli’s Travels of Guru Nanak, Dr Arjan singh Mann’s Guru Tegh Bahadur, Dr Tarlochan Singh’s Guru Nanak on Roof of the world, Taluka Tarungpa’s Guru Nanak in Tibet, Sikh Review articles of Lt Col N S Issar, Surinder Singh SPS Ahluwalia and many others. Gyani Gyan Singh, Dr Surinder Singh Kohli, Dr Arjan Singh Mann and Dr D S Grewal are very specific of Guru Nanak’s travels to Chungthang, Lachen, Gurudongmar, Bhutan, Dhubri, Gwahati, Girgaon-Nazira, Majhuli, Golaghat, Sadiya, Brahamkund, Burma and China. Further confirmation was done through interviews with Sange Lera of Segang; Rigdzin Rimpoche, incharge of 12 Gomphas in Tibet, JK Butia, Intelligence Officer Thanggu, Chungthang Lama, Lachen lama, Thanggu Lama, Zimithang Lama, Lt Col Bikkar Singh in Bhutan, Lt Col Bakshi in Arunachal Pradesh, Pandit Ram Saran Das Head Priest Brahmkund, Harpal Singh Nazira-Girgaon and many others whose interviews are recorded.

A Gurdwara was initially constructed by Major D S Grewal and his 542 Field Battery (Ahirs) and locals of Segang village in 1985-86. Field Company Engineers of 5 Mtn Bde helped develop the route. Later 5 Mtn Bde and its constituent battalions and affiliated Artillery regiment including 6 Field Regiment developed and maintained the Gurdwara. The Sikh Bns spent lot of funds it to develop it into a magnificent architecture structure. 2 Mountain Division helped develop cantonment and the road up to Gurdwara and the Air force developed Advance Landing Ground. Govt of Arunachal is now putting it into world tourist map.  Gurdwarais on INida China border touching Tibet Autonomous region

However, recently Tibetan Lamas started claiming that it was not Guru Nanak, but Padmasambhava visited this place and started claiming this site after the Gurdwara has been there for 38 years now. To ensure that the Speaker of the Arunachal Pradesh assembly who is MLA from Menchuka, invited the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh and before that got Sri Guru Granth Sahib and the Nishan Sahib from Gurdwara Taposthan illegally and the CM Arunachal Paradesh Pema Khandu in the presence of the local MLA and Speaker of Arunchal Pradesh Assembly installed Buddhist idols. As it is a remote area, we came to know through news only. Guru Granth Sahib and Nishan Sahib reinstalled in Guru Nanak Taposthan as Pathar Sahib site where Guru Nanak meditated.
