What is Sikhism ? Youth informs!
This film deals with some principle questions of Sikhism.
We begin with the first question.

What do the Sikhs believe in?

The Sikhs believe in One God and the message of the ten Gurus.
The word "Sikh" means student of wisdom.

 Who founded the Sikh Religion?
The Sikh Religion was founded by Guru Nanak Dev ji in the 15th Century. He had nine successors.

Why did Guru Nanak Dev ji found the Sikh Religion ?

Guru Nanak Dev ji did not get satisfying answers to his spiritual questions in the Hindu and Islamic beliefs.
He was against the ancient social system and stood up against the caste system, the suppression of women, and religious superstition.

What is the Guru Granth Sahib ?
In the Guru Granth Sahib six of the ten Gurus have written down their message and wisdom in poems.
In the Guru Granth Sahib there are also verses from Hindu and Muslim bhagats.
The quintessence is about overcoming the ego and loving the creator.

Why do Sikhs wear turbans ?
The turban covers the long uncut hair of the Sikhs and is a sign of wisdom and high character.
The Sikhs do not cut their hair because they live in accordance to the law of nature and show their respect to the creator and his creation.

 Why are Sikhs vegetarians ?
Sikhs refuse to eat meat for moral and ethical reasons.
High meat consumption has harming effects on the health.
It also promotes intensive mass animal farming.
This is dishonorable to the animals and also harms our environment.
 Sikh can not support this.

Do Sikhs have a place for prayers ?
Sikhs have a place for prayer called “Gurudwara”.
All Sikhs come together there to recite and reflect on the verses from the Guru Granth Sahib.

 How do Sikhs pray ?

Sikhs recite verses from the Guru Granth Sahib and try to apply the Guru’s message in everyday life.
