Sikhs have a very straightforward but still very inspirational and practical initiation rite. Only problem is that we seem to be surrendering it to more flashy and more socially rewarding ones.
"I felt like I had stepped back in history to see it. I have never experienced anything like that before. I was not aware of the festival until a few years ago when I got involved in the project.
[VIDEO] But in the gurdwara, the dedicated hands of dozens of sevadars coming in and out of the kitchen everyday are not just making roti. They’re making parshaada—a blessing for each of the hundreds of people who will eat it.
“More than 50,000 people of different faiths visited the gurudwara between December 31 and January 2. Of them, 37,000 partook of the langar or community meal organised at a special tent.”
A handful of Tracy, CA families will give away coats, gloves and socks to the needy, beginning Saturday.
