After a gap of 4 years Tarlochan Singh (pictured left with the UK Sikh missionary sosiety) made a visit to London at the end of August. During his trip he met with top Sikh leaders, intellectuals and some Members of Parliament.
About one million Sikhs are now settled in the U.K. and experience generally complete religious freedom and financial stability.
He also met with S. Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi (left ) who was the first Turbaned Member of Parliament in the United Kingdom. S. Tanmanjeet Singh studied both in Oxford and Cambridge University and has been elected for the third time to the Parliament as a representative of the labour Party. He is pictured (below left) with Thekadar Jaswant SIngh the current President of Gurdwara Miri Piri in London.
There are currently 12 Sikh Members in the House of Commons and three in the House of Lords.
During talks on London Tarlochan Singh advised that the Sikh Diaspora should channel their energy and resources towards the future of the coming generations in the U.K.
He suggested a project of each Sikh Gurdwara adopting 5 Sikh students for higher education in main Universities.
While in London Tarlochan Singh also got to witness an exhibition on Maharaja Ranjit Singh which is attracting large number of visitors at this time.
Sikhs should and need to continue the work of having all Sikh artifacts, documents, paintings and photographs under one roof. The U.K. has a very rich heritage and archives of the Sikhs which is currently distributed at various places and houses.
