The executive committee (EC) of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has decided to open a preparatory academy to prepare the Gursikh youths for the competitive examinations.
Speaking after the EC meeting at the SGPC office in Amritsar on Thursday, SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur said, “An academy dedicated to the 400th Prakash Purab (birth anniversary) of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib is being set up by the SGPC to prepare Gursikh youths for the competitive examinations, which is named as 'Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Institute of Competitive Studies'.”
Bibi Jagir Kaur said, “A sub-committee was constituted in this regard and as per its report and recommendations this institute would be set up at Panth Ratan Jathedar Gurcharan Singh Tohra Institute of Advanced Studies in Sikhism, Bahadurgarh, Patiala. The academy would prepare the Gursikh youths for the IAS, IPS, NDA, PCS and Grade-A central or state services.”
Bibi Jagir Kaur said, “For taking the coaching through this institute, the students would have to Sabat Soorat (with unshorn hair, beard) and only the students belonging to Sikh dharma will be admitted. Graduate level students will be required to be at least 20 years of age and preference will be given to post graduate students. No fee would be charged from those students taking coaching at this institute.”
Bibi Jagir Kaur said, “Apart from this, accepting the selection of the girls from the trials for the sports academy set up by the SGPC to encourage girls towards the sports, it has been decided to use a sarai at Gurdwara Sri Ber Sahib, Sultanpur Lodhi as a hostel. The girls selected for the sports academy would be provided good coaches, sports kits, food, etc. along with their education by the SGPC.”
