ADVISORY

KYR (28K)While American courts examine the legality of the Trump administration's discriminatory immigration order, the Sikh Coalition is concerned that the aggressive anti-immigration policies will directly and indirectly impact the Sikh community in the United States.

For example, asylum seekers from India and refugees from Afghanistan may be barred from entering the United States. Undocumented immigrants in the United States may be at increased risk of arrest and deportation. Even legal permanent residents and U.S. citizens may become targets of police profiling because they wear a turban or have darker skin.

In this turbulent climate, our community needs to arm itself with knowledge. Our friends at the Sikh Family Center have partnered with the Immigrant Defense Project and Center for Constitutional Rights to produce a Punjabi-language guide concerning a person’s rights with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Please share this important resource with your friends and family, and please distribute it at your local Gurdwara:

ICEDef (20K)Know Your Rights with ICE (Punjabi)
Know Your Rights with ICE (English)

If you believe you have been targeted because of your Sikh identity, please contact our legal team using our online form. If you or someone you love is facing an adverse immigration action, we can help you find an immigration attorney.

The Sikh Coalition will continue to share resources like this in the coming weeks and months, and we welcome your ideas and feedback for making our community more resilient.
