And to those on the Gurdwara committees, how about inviting the local police department to a diwan? I've already seen some Gurdwaras doing this and it is having a positive effect on the Sikh community. Better yet, it would be really awesome if we could invite TSA agents to come, sit down, and have langar with us.

My teacher gave me a tape with the words “Japji Sahib” written on top. Now I understand the power of that gift, because it was the beginning of my Journey on this Spiritual Path that changed my life.
People of faith are resilient. The Muslims of Christchurch will pick themselves up, like the Sikhs of Oak Creek did. Shattered lives will be pieced together again. Hope will rise. Pain will dull and become bearable. If we are lucky, healing grace will follow. Perhaps forgiveness too.
The fact of the matter is that being a devote Sikh does not mean taking on parts of Punjabi culture. It means bringing the light of Sikhi into your own culture and uplifting it.
