Washington, D.C - The National Sikh Campaign (NSC), the organization behind the award-winning "We Are Sikhs" initiative, is launching a podcast called Sikh Meets World. The podcast aims to explore the lives of exemplary Sikhs in politics, activism, sports, entertainment, business and more, in order to understand their story and career, and ask their advice so others can do the same.

"As part of our mission to help inform the broader public about the values and contributions of Sikh Americans, we were able to meet many Sikh leaders in various industries and better understand how they have made positive impressions with their faith," said Gurwin Singh Ahuja, co-host of Sikh Meets World and former Obama White House and campaign official. "This podcast has provided us an opportunity to record those conversations and now share them with the rest of the Sikh community around the world."

Released after the sixth anniversary of the Oak Creek, Wisconsin Gurdwara shooting, the first episode of Sikh Meets World sits down with Pardeep Singh Kaleka, whose father was shot and killed in the hate-fueled attack, and Arno Michaelis, the former white supremacist who created the racist, skinhead organization which Michael Wade Page, the attacker, belonged to and believed in.

In addition to learning about their individual stories, the podcast delves into how their two divergent paths have come together at this point in time to write their new book, The Gift of Our Wounds.

"We hope our podcast will serve as an intimate way for people to better understand how faith, family, and the immigrant experience have impacted the lives of Sikhs who are making an impact today - a perspective not often captured by traditional media outlets," said Shawn Singh Ghuman, co-host of Sikh Meets World and former Ketchum communications strategist and current Johns Hopkins University Lecturer. "Given the current political climate, we believe more Sikhs Americans need to pursue public service and leadership positions and we hope this podcast can inspire Sikhs to be more civically engaged."

The first season also includes discussions with prominent Sikh activists, politicians, professional athletes, and a rare interview with the first Sikh campaign manager for the first Sikh and Asian American congressman, Dalip Singh Saund, who served in the House of Representatives in the 1950s. New episodes of Sikh Meets World will be released monthly and can be found on Gurbani Media Center on SikhNet, itunesSpotify, Google Play, Stitcher, SoundCloud, and YouTube. Due to technical difficulties at Apple, Sikh Meets World will be released on iTunes later this month.
