Much love to you all.... Deepa Nair Rasiya

KauRas is a London based vocal trio headed by award-winning composer and vocalist Deepa Nair Rasiya, with her two daughters Nimrita and Meera. Formed last year out of a desire to bring Gurmat Sangeet to audiences that usually wouldn’t be exposed to it, this family trio performs Shabad, Sufi, Bhakti and Christian hymns in an effort to spread a message of unity and divine love transcending the boundaries of language and religion.

A singer best known for her extensive Sufi oeuvre and film credits (including Bride and Prejudice and Bhaji on the Beach), Deepa discovered Sikhi on marrying tabla-maestro Manjeet Singh Rasiya, son of the famous kirtani Gurdial Singh Rasiya. Every week, the family convenes for an evening of kirtan, and the more Deepa has come to understand the essential message of Gurbani, the more natural it has seemed to incorporate it into her music professionally.

After a solo album of Shabads Sarnai (scheduled for release in 2017), KauRas evolved organically from playing around with compositions and arrangements in the family home. The single Nanak Naam was composed by Deepa, produced by Nimrita and features both Nimrita and Meera singing, and is a beautifully smooth track perfect for meditation and contemplation.

Hints of Celtic folk and calming Simran make for a hopeful sound, and the nine-minute track is proof of great things to come for the trio.

Nanak Naam is available for streaming and free download here.
