Celebrate Bandhi Chhor with Sikh art, antiques and a host of festivities this saturday, at Guru Maneyo Granth Gurdwara, in Slough U.K's largest Gurdwara.
This Saturday, 10 November, Guru Maneyo Granth Gurdwara in Slough will be serving an organic langar throughout the day as part of the "Discover Bandhi Chhor" event. A sevadaar at the gurdwara commented, we have been looking to have an organic langar day for some time and this event gives us the perfect opportunity to promote both the health and environmental benefits of organic food and farming.
With Waheguru’s grace, we celebrate the one year anniversary of the Without Shape Without Form Sikh Art Gallery. The gallery occupies 7,000 sq ft of space solely dedicated to the better understanding of Sikh history. Over the past year, thousands of guests have enjoyed a perfect fusion of art, history and Gurbani, which creates a beautiful visual narrative of the lives of the Sikh Gurus and the legacy they gave the world.
On Saturday Nov 10th, we will add to this grand collection of Sikh art with a worldwide unveiling of a brand new painting by artist Kanwar Singh. The unveiling will be part of Guru Maneyo Granth Gurdwara’s Discover Bandhi Chhor event as we celebrate the phenomenal contribution of Siri Guru Hargobind Sahib ji.
The event celebrates Bandhi Chhor and also marks the one year anniversary of the UK's first permanent Sikh art gallery, Without Shape Without Form. The gallery is collaboration with Kanwar Singh from Art of Punjab and contains his full collection of paintings which capture pivotal moments which define Sikh history. To mark the anniversary, a new, specially created painting from artist Kanwar Singh will be unveiled on the day and added to the gallery's collection. Over 8000 visitors have come to the gallery since opening including schools, inter-faith groups, Members of Parliament and members of the armed forces. This gallery has become a hub for visitors of all ages and religious backgrounds to engage with the vibrant history of the Sikh faith and understand it in a much deeper context. The gallery took over a year to plan and assemble with community education and engagement with Sikhism as its central focus. Thus each vibrant scene is set within a historical timeline explaining the legacy of the ten Sikh Gurus, with carefully selected Gurbani (Sikh scripture) to enhance the comprehension of the historical text. Starting at 2pm, the Bandi Chhor celebration has a wide range of events for the whole family including arts and crafts, story telling, archery, painting and gatka. Visitors will also have the chance to see a unique collection of Armory from the 16th century. Ajeet Amory, who have carried out restoration projects to preserve arms belonging to the Sikh Gurus will be discussing their work and for the first time sharing pictures of the restoration project.
