Guru Nanak: The Founder of Sikhism - Life & Legacy from Auteur Productions on Vimeo.
According to a study by the National Sikh Campaign, 95 percent of Americans have never heard of Guru Nanak despite the Sikh faith being the fifth largest religion in the world. The documentary aims to educate viewers on the life and core teachings of Guru Nanak, while also showing how his lessons are being applied by Sikhs today.
“Guru Nanak was a revolutionary voice in South Asia during the 15th century,” says Shawn Singh Ghuman, co-founder of the National Sikh Campaign and We Are Sikhs http://www.wearesikhs.org> – a leading effort to educate people on the Sikh faith and its followers. “His story is important for over 25 million Sikhs around the world and his message of equality, tolerance, woman’s empowerment, and community service is critical in today’s world of nationalism, bullying, and interfaith misconceptions and stereotypes.”
“Guru Nanak is a renowned spiritual figure everywhere but the western world,” said Gerald Krell, director of the documentary. “This film aims to change that by interweaving the story of Guru Nanak’s life with vignettes showing how his spiritual legacy is being carried out by Sikh Americans in science, medicine, business, arts, and public service.”
“Guru Nanak: Life & Legacy” was photographed on locations throughout India, Pakistan, and the United States, and currently airs on U.S. Public Broadcasting Stations (PBS). The film was voted “Best Documentary” by the Religious News Association and given the Award of Excellence at the International Film Festival for Spirituality and Religion.
It is the winner of the Garden State Film Festival’s “Best International Documentary” and “Best Cinematographer Award” and has been selected to be screened by the prestigious Mediterranean Film Festival Cannes.
The rental will cost $12 to rent for 48 hours. A portion of the proceeds will go to the National Sikh Campaign to fund upcoming projects that will continue sharing the life and legacy of Guru Nanak. The film will be available through the end of the year.
