The members of the Sikh community as well as other community faiths will observe the 402th Martyrdom of Fifth Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Arjan Dev ji on a large scale on June 7 and 8, 2008 in Hyderabad.
In this connection, the Prabhandak Committee, Gurudwara Saheb, Sikh Chawni, Uppuguda, Hyderabad will organise two large events - VISHAAL DEEWAN FOLLOWED BY NAGAR KEERTAN on June 7, 2008.
On June 8, VISHAAL KEERTAN DARBAR between 11 am and 4 pm where 20,000 Sikh devotees and other community faiths will converge at the Congregation.
Prabhandak Committee President S. Jahan Singh said that on June 7, Vishaal Deewan (Mass Congregation) will be organised at the Gurudwara Saheb premises from 11 am to 3 pm in which renowned Ragi Jathas (community preachers) have been invited from different parts of the country to render Shabad Keertans (Holy Hymns) and throw light on the teachings of Guru Arjan Dev ji and other Sikh Gurus who have laid down their lives for the sake the country.
Bhai Balwinder Singhji of Mata Koulanji, Sri Amritsar, Bhai Surinder Singhji of Patna Saheb, Bhai Surenderpal Singhji of Ludhianawale, Bhai Hari Singh, Bhai Nagina Singh, Nanak Singh Sukhmani and other Ragi Jathas will render keertans from 11 am to 3 pm. After the culmination of the programme, Guru-ka-langar will be served to all the devotees.
NAGAR KEERTAN : Later, in the evening, colourful Nagar Keertan (Holy Procession) will be taken out Gurudwata Saheb Uppuguda and will pass through Kandikal gate, Lal Darwaza, Gowlipura and Bhoiguda and return back to the gurudwara in the evening.
Guru Granth sahebji will be carried in a beautiful bedecked vehicle along with Nishaan Sahebans. Gatka will be exhibited will be exibited all along the procession, Jatha Tera Jatha will render shabad keertans.

BRIEF HISTORY OF GURU ARJAN DEVJI: The greatest contribution of Guru Arjan Devji to the nation was his supreme sacrifice. Guruji's ever growing influence amongst the people perturbed Emperor Jehangir. Under royal instruction the Governor of Lahore had him arrested on a frivolous charge and subjected him to severe torture that eventually resulted in the Guru's death.
Guru Arjan Dev Ji set the noblest example of courage and boldness in resisting the wrongs of the mightiest power on earth, and thus sowed the seed that was to bear rich fruit in the times to come. It was the turning point in the growth and development of Sikh Community. He was the first in the long series of Sikh martyrs. His martyrdom entire changed the character of reformatory religious movement. The Sikhs were transmuted from a pacifist to assertive and marshal people after the execution of Guru Arjan Dev Ji.
