I recently received an email from Priya Kumar, a doctoral student at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) at the University of London, and who recently completed a TEDx Talk about the role of the web in the South Asian diaspora.

In the TED spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group

She writes: "My name is Priya and I am a doctoral student in Politics at SOAS London. I did a TEDx talk in May about hybrid identities and the web, and I used the Sikh virtual community to explain South Asian based identity. The talk was a hit, and I had many Sikh men come to after and express their gratitude over my discussion of Turban wearing."

Priya’s talk is well worth listening to. It analyzes the the state of Sikh blogging and how South Asians, and Sikhs in particular, are exploring their “hybrid” identities in the west.
