Sat Nam, I am Mataji Gurumeher Kaur Khalsa, age 78. Growing up  in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, the Atlantic ocean was my front yard. My husband and I moved to Orlando, Florida, where we raised our 6 children. It was in Orlando at the very first Winter Solstice gathering with SSS Harbhajan Singh Khalsa in 1971, that I took Sikh vows and stepped onto this beautiful path.In 1984 my husband also tied a turban and became GuruMeher Singh. Our four daughters are Gursikhs and our two sons honor our commitment, but follow their own way.

In 1984 my husband and I moved to Albuquerque, NM. Later we were in Roswell, New Mexico, while many of our Sikh teens were attending the NM Military Institute. We provided a Gurdwara and cosy space for them during that time. Now we have a full 12 year curriculum at Miri Piri Academy in Amritsar, India.

GuruMeher Singh, my husband of 47 years, passed away  in 1994 in Roswell. That is when I came to Espanola to be with my daughters and the Sangat here. As a school teacher and operator of preschool day care, my life has always included children. We have 13 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren plus one more on the way!

For the past 5 years I have been honored to be the Ashram secretary at Hacienda de Guru Ram Das in Espanola, New Mexico. Once Yogi Bhajan told my husband and me "You are to do nothing but tell stories and give hugs! That is what grandparents do". What a wonderful mission! My prayer is that God will grant me the blessing to Keep Up and share the great stories of our Sikh history for a long time to come.

Wahe Guru Ji Ka Khlsa, Wahe Guru Ji Ki Fateh
