Dayton, OH (USA) - The Mental Health and Recovery Board (MHRB) of Clark, Greene and Madison Counties (MHRB) presented awards at their annual event "Recognizing Exceptional People" at Clark State College in Springfield, OH. In recognition of exceptional services, MHRB presents annual awards to the county residents. These three counties comprise of Springfield, Beavercreek and many other cities around Dayton area also known as the "Birthplace of Aviation"

Avtar Singh and his wife Sarabjit Kaur, residents of Springfield and well-known business entrepreneurs, were selected as the recipient of 2016 Delvin M. Harshaw Award for their outstanding contributions towards advocacy in the community. The couple immigrated to US from a village near Jalandhar, Punjab in India. They have been volunteering in various community activities including interfaith, non-profit organizations and The Salvation Army.

Rescue center Chairman, Lynn Cresol presenting the award said, "We have been associated with (them) for 19 years. During this time, I have noticed (them) to be probably the most genuinely nice people; very kind, honest, tolerant, caring, non-judgmental and community-minded. They recognize that people have faults including mental problems, weaknesses and treat everyone as the same and are very humble people."

Avtar Singh thanked the Board for the award and appreciated the work done by the Board Awards for Outstanding Contributions to Youth Empowerment, Mental Health, Alcohol and Drug Services were also awarded to other residents. Members of the Sikh community also attended the event and congratulated the couple for award.
