Sedition: 

1. Incitement of discontent or rebellion against a government.

2. Any action, especially in speech or writing, promoting such discontent or rebellion.

 

Today, the Indian media and Sikh media have reported that some organizers of the Sarbat Khalsa 2015 have been charged with sedition by the Punjab Police.

Some of those people charged include:

Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) president Simranjit Singh Mann, United Akali Dal (UAD) chief Mohkam Singh, Dhiyan Singh Mand, Bhai Amrik Singh Ajnala and Baljit Singh Daduwal, Jaskarn Singh Kahan, Surinder Singh Thikriwala, Jora Singh Maloke, Resham Singh USA, Surjit Singh USA, Paramjit Singh USA, Gurtej Singh USA, Harinder Singh USA (CEO Sikh Research Institute), Balwinder Singh Italy, Vadhawa Singh, Satnam Singh Manava and Sikander Singh. It has been reported that as many as 58 organizers and supporters of the Sarbat Khalsa were detained on November 11th.

The Punjab Police reportedly brought these charges based on speeches made during the event, which took place on November 10th. News sources also report that more people may be charged in the days ahead.
