Harjinder Singh from Akal publishers and Raj Kaur from Kaurageous had an interview with Sikh Channel about the new release of Mata Sahib Kaur ji where they were asked why did they create this song.
Harjinder S: "I think initially it was Kaurageous who started events around Mata Sahib Kaur ji. That's where the vision started to be honest. It was Kaurageous and giving respect to Giani Thakur Singh, as a kathavaachak, in the sense he's the one who brought the consciousness of Mata Sahib Kaur as a concept in to our lives. Even though we're told that Mata Sahib is the mother of the Khalsa, as a kaum we don't really relate to Mata Sahib Kaur. So that's what brought it around for us organization, for Kaurageous, for Akal Publisher and more recently Kirpa Records. That's how this project started."
Then Harjinder Singh was asked how the song actually took birth.
Harjinder S: "Well initially I had a sabbatical in India for 18 months. So when I came back, as part of the work I do for Akal publishers I just write stuff I feel passionate about. So the Mata Sahib Kaur lyrics, I just wrote them sitting at home one day. I had a bit of time to think in India, and there dharmic geets (religious folk songs) are quite popular, so the wording was quite natural to me, writing in Punjabi. When I wrote it sitting at home, I never thought it was going to be a song or anything like that. I just wrote what was in my heart, my sense of love, in terms of what my relationship with her as our mother would be. So that's how it came about initially."
Then Sikh channels Sun Kaur reflected how her mother gave her so much guidance, "I that's such an important role that our mothers in the Sikh faith do play. What do you think about that Raj?"
Raj Kaur: "Mothers do urge to keep their child from right and wrong, to lead them on the right path. That's the Sikhi that Mata Sahib Kaur gives to us and that's what our mothers give to us now in today's world."
