This week is the solemn remembrance of the first holocaust of Sikhs called 'Chhota Ghallughara' which took place 275 years ago. The first of the series on the subject has been released already. The first episode is called 'The Plight of the Singhs', with other episodes to be released every few days which will be available on soundcloud and youtube

275 years ago the pages of Sikh History were once again stained in blood as during this time the Chhota Ghallughara (Holocaust) occurred (March-June 1746)

Under the orders of the Mughal forces and the wickid Lakhpat Rai tens of thousands of Sikhs were killed and massacred.

Lakhpat Rai went on to order Sikh places of worship be destroyed and the Saroops of Sahib Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji be burnt. He vowed to eliminate the Sikh kaum from the face of the Earth.

He even went so far as to decree that anyone uttering the word "Guru" would be put to death and even saying the Panjabi language word for sugar, "gur", which sounded like "Guru", would be cause for the death penalty.

This massacre of Sikhs exemplifies the tyrant policies of the Mughal empire in which Hindu officials like Lakhpat Rai also contributed and shows the rare valour on the part of the Sikhs whom never abandoned their faith.

The Chhota Ghallughara of 1746 and the Vadda Ghallughara of 1762 are unforgettable tragic events. The Sikh Kaum will remain indebted to the Sikh men, women and children martyred in these Ghallugharas and until the end of time will continue to pay homage to these valiant martyrs.
